Duralabharishtam

Duralabharishtam or Duralabharishta is an ayurvedic medicinal preparation. It is used in conditions like piles/hemorrhoids, indigestion, decreased digestive power etc… It is more useful in bleeding piles and has more anulomana (normal movement of vata) property.

पचेद् दुरालभाप्रस्थं द्रोणे अपां द्विपलैस्सह |
दन्तीपाठ अग्निविजयावासामलकनागरैः ||
तस्मिन् सिता शतदद्यात् पादस्थे अन्यच्च पूर्ववत् |
लिंपेत्कुंभंतु फलिनीकृष्णाचव्याज्यमाक्षिकैः ||

pacēd durālabhāprasthaṁ drōṇē apāṁ dvipalaissaha |
dantīpāṭha agnivijayāvāsāmalakanāgaraiḥ ||
tasmin sitā śatadadyāt pādasthē anyacca pūrvavat |
limpētkumbhantu phalinīkr̥ṣṇācavyājyamākṣikaiḥ ||

  • Duralabha — Fagonia cretica
  • Danti moola — Baliospermum montanum
  • Patha — Cyclea peltata
  • Agni (Chitraka) — Plumbago zeylanica
  • Vijaya (Haritaki) — Terminalia chebula
  • Vasa — Adhatoda vasica
  • Amalaka — Phyllanthus emblica
  • Nagara — Zingiber officinale
  • Dhataki – Woodfordia fruticosa
  • Phalini (Priyangu) — Callicarpa macrophylla
  • Krishna — Piper longum
  • Chavya — Piper chaba
  • Aajya — Ghrita
  • Makshika — Honey

The Indications —

  • Agni vardhaka (increases digestive power)
  • Gudaja/Arshas (piles/hemorrhoids)
  • Grahani (a variety of digestive disorders/?IBS)
  • Pandu (anemia)
  • Kushta (skin diseases)
  • Udara (abdominal enlargement)
  • Gara (a variety of  poisoning)
  • Jwara (fever)
  • Shwayathu (edema)
  • Pleeha (splenic disorders)
  • Hrudroga (cardiac problems)
  • Gulma (abdominal tumors)
  • Yakshma (depletive disorder/tuberculosis)
  • Vami/Chardi (vomiting)
  • Krimi (worm infestation)

Dosage —

In general, it is advised 15 to 30 ml once or twice daily or as directed by the physician.
