Kalyanaka Gudam

Kalyanaka Gulam or Kalyanaka Guda/Kalyanaka Gudam/Kalyanaka Gula is an ayurvedic jam  (lehya) preparation. This is one of the Virechana (purgatory) preparation explained in the Kalpa sthana of Astanga hrudaya. This lehya can be used at any season without any restrictions (pathya). It is also used in treating skin diseases, piles, Kamala (jaundice), abdominal tumors, prameha (diabetes) ascites, anal fissures, digestive problems, anemia, infertility etc..

विडङ्ग पिप्पलीमूल त्रिफलाधान्य चित्रकान् | 
मरिचेन्द्रयवाजाजी पिप्पली हस्तिपिप्पलिः || 
दीप्यकं पञ्चवणं चूर्णितं कर्षिकं पृथक् | 
तिलतैल त्रिवृच्चूर्णभागौ चाष्ट पलोन्मितौ || 
धात्रीफलरसप्रस्थंस्त्रीन् गुडार्ध तुलान्वितान् | 
पक्त्वा मृद्वग्निना खादेत्ततो मात्रामयन्त्रणः || 
कुष्टार्शः कामलागुल्ममेहोदर भगन्दरान् | 
ग्रहणी पाण्डुरोगांश्च हन्ति पुंसवनश्च सः || 
गुडः कल्याणको नामो सर्वेष्वृतुषु यौगिकः | अ.ह.क २/१७ – २०

  • Guda — Jaggery
  • Amalaki Swarasa — fresh juice of  Emblica Officinalis
  • Tila Thaila — sesame oil
  • Vidanga – Embelia ribes
  • Pippalimula – Piper longum, its roots
  • Haritaki – Terminalia chebula
  • Bibhitaki – Terminalis bellirica
  • Amalaki – Emblica officinalis
  • Dhanyaka – Coriandrum sativum
  • Chitraka – Plumbago zeylanica
  • Maricha – Piper nigrum
  • Indrayava – Wrightia antidysenterica
  • Ajaji / Jeeraka – Cuminum cyminum
  • Pippali – Piper longum
  • Hastipippali – Scindapsus officinalis
  • Dipyaka – Trachyspermum ammi
  • Saindhava Lavana – Rock Salt
  • Vida Lavana – Sodium Chloride
  • Krishna Lavana – Black Salt
  • Romaka – Salt petre
  • Samudra Lavana – Sea salt
  • Trivrit – Operculina turpethum
  • Dhatriphala – Phylanthus emblica

Indications of Kalyanaka Gudam

  1. Kushta  — skin diseases
  2. Arsha — piles/Haemorrhoids
  3. Kamala — Jaundice
  4. Gulma — abdominal tumors
  5. Meha — diabetes
  6. Udara — ascites
  7. Bhagandara — anal fissures
  8. Grahani — digestive problems
  9. Pandu — anemia
  10. Pumsavana — able to have children

Dosage of Kalyanaka Gulam

Though in reference there is no specific mention about the dosage, in general, it can be given 10 to 20 gms for an adult or as directed by the physician.

This lehyam can be taken at any season (sarva rututeshu yogikau) without much restriction on diet and lifestyle (pathya)
