Vasakarishtam is a famous Ayurvedic liquid medicine. Its main ingredient is Vasaka – Malabar nut. It is a potent mucolytic and anti asthmatic. Hence Vasakarishta is used in many respiratory conditions. It is used in the treatment of cold, cough, bronchitis, inflammation and bleeding diseases- haemoptysis and raktapitta. It is also known by the terms – Vasakasavam, Vasakasav, Vasakarishta, Vasarishta, vasarista, Vasakadyarishtam etc.
The Reference Shloka —
वासकस्वरसं तद्वद् मृतसंजीवनीं सुराम् |
संमिश्रय समभागेन संमूहुर्त्ते भिषग्वरः ||२११||
मृत्पात्रे काचपात्रेवातत् संस्थाप्यचतन्मुखम् |
दृढं समृद्ध्य यत्नेन स्थापयेत् सप्तवासरम् || २१२ ||
वस्त्रपूतं ततः कृत्वा प्रत्यहं माष मात्रकम् |
वासकरिष्टमेतं तु पाययेद्रोगिणं ततः || १२३ ||
सत्पथ्यभोजिनस्तस्य देवद्विजनिषेविणः |
रक्तपित्तश्वासकासगलरोगादयो गदाः || २१४ ||
उरःक्षतश्चविविधारोगा अन्येऽपि दारुणाः |
विलयं सत्वरं यान्ति नात्र कार्या विचारणा || २१५ || B.R 15/211 – 215
vāsakasvarasaṁ tadvad mr̥tasaṁjīvanīṁ surām |

- Decoction of Panchanga of Plant Adusa (Vasaka)
- Mritasanjivani Sura

- Urah kshata
Dosage of Vasakarishta —
12 – 24 ml once or twice daily, or as directed by Ayurvedic Physician.
