- Ksata Kshina (debility due to lung injury)

Benefits and Uses of Kanakasava
1. Bronchitis & Asthma
First and foremost, Kanakasava helps reduce inflammation in the bronchi and supports easier breathing. Moreover, its sedative action calms persistent coughing, while its expectorant property helps expel mucus. At the same time, its bronchodilatory effect widens the airways, which further improves airflow and relieves breathlessness.
2. Biliary Colic & Renal Colic
Interestingly, Kanakasava also shows analgesic (pain-relieving) properties. Therefore, it can help manage acute attacks of biliary and renal colic.
- During an acute attack, 2.5–5 ml may be given in small repeated doses.
- The dose can be repeated 3–6 times at 15-minute intervals.
- In many cases, this alone provides significant pain relief.
However, in biliary colic, some patients may also require Sutshekhar Ras (250 mg). Likewise, in renal colic, it may be combined with Hajrul Yahood Bhasma for better results.
Additionally, if there is burning urination, Chandanasava may be added to reduce irritation and counteract the heating nature of Kanakasava.
3. Persistent Hiccup
Besides respiratory uses, Kanakasava can also relieve persistent hiccups lasting more than 24 hours, thanks to its calming and regulating action on the respiratory system.
Dosage of Kanakasava
Generally, the recommended dosage is:
6–15 ml twice daily, diluted with an equal amount of water, or as directed by an Ayurvedic physician.
Possible Side Effects
Although usually well tolerated, some individuals may experience:
- Headache
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Restlessness
If any of these symptoms persist, medical advice should be sought.
Contraindications
Kanakasava should not be used in the following situations:
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Tachycardia (fast heart rate)
- Children below 5 years of age
