Kaishore Guggulu

Kaishore guggulu is a guggul formulation used for raised uric acid, Vata rakta (mild to severe attacks of gouty arthritis), inflammatory diseases, Vrana (wounds),  Gulma (abdominal diseases), constipation, Ajirna (indigestion), Prameha Pitika (diabetic carbuncles) etc.

The shloka —

त्रिफलायास्त्रयः प्रस्थाः प्रस्थैकममृतां भवेत् |
संक्षुध्यलोहपात्रेतु सार्धद्रोणांबुनापचेत् ||
जलमर्धशृतं  ज्ञात्वा गृहणीयाद्वस्त्रगालितं |
ततः क्वाथे क्षिपेच्छुद्धं  गुग्गुलुं प्रस्थं सम्मितं  ||
पुनः पचेदयः पात्रे दव्र्या संघट्टथेन्मुहुः |
सांद्रीभूतं च तं ज्ञात्वा गुडपाक  समाकृतिं ||
चूर्णीकृत्य ततस्तत्र द्रव्याणीमानि निक्षिपेत् |
त्रिफला द्विपलाज्ञेया गुडूची पलिका मता ||
षडक्षं त्र्यूषणं प्रोक्तं विडंगं च पलार्धकं |
दंती कर्षमिताकार्या त्रिवृत्कर्षमिता स्मृता ||
ततः पिंडीकृतं सर्वं घृत भांडे विनिक्षिपेत् |
गुटिकाः शाणिकाः कृत्वा युंज्याद्दोषाध्यपेक्षया ||
अनुपानं भिषक् दध्यात् कोष्णं नीरं पयोऽथवा |
मंजिष्टादि शृतंवापि युक्तियुक्तमतः परं ||
जयेत्सर्वानि कुष्टानि वातरक्तं त्रिदोषजं |
सर्वव्रणांश्च गुल्मांश्च प्रमेहपिटकांस्तथा ||
प्रमेहोदरमंदाग्निकासश्वयथु पांडुताः |
हंति सर्वामयान्नित्यमुपयुक्तो रसायनः ||
कैशोरिकोभिधानोयं गुग्गुलुः कांतिकारकः |
वासादिना नेत्रगदान् गुल्मदीन् वरूणादिना ||
क्वाथेन खदिरस्यापि व्रणं कुष्टं विनाशयेत् |
अम्लं तीष्णमजीर्णं च व्यवायं श्रममातपं ||
मध्यं रोषं त्यजेत्सम्यक् गुणार्थपुरसेवकः  ||

saṁkṣudhyalohapātretu sārdhadroṇāṁbunāpacet ||
jalamardhaśr̥taṁ jñātvā gr̥haṇīyādvastragālitaṁ |
tataḥ kvāthe kṣipecchuddhaṁ gugguluṁ prasthaṁ sammitaṁ ||
punaḥ pacedayaḥ pātre davryā saṁghaṭṭathenmuhuḥ |
sāṁdrībhūtaṁ ca taṁ jñātvā guḍapāka samākr̥tiṁ ||
cūrṇīkr̥tya tatastatra dravyāṇīmāni nikṣipet |
triphalā dvipalājñeyā guḍūcī palikā matā ||
ṣaḍakṣaṁ tryūṣaṇaṁ proktaṁ viḍaṁgaṁ ca palārdhakaṁ |
daṁtī karṣamitākāryā trivr̥tkarṣamitā smr̥tā ||
tataḥ piṁḍīkr̥taṁ sarvaṁ ghr̥ta bhāṁḍe vinikṣipet |
guṭikāḥ śāṇikāḥ kr̥tvā yuṁjyāddoṣādhyapekṣayā ||
anupānaṁ bhiṣak dadhyāt koṣṇaṁ nīraṁ payo’thavā |
maṁjiṣṭādi śr̥taṁvāpi yuktiyuktamataḥ paraṁ ||
jayetsarvāni kuṣṭāni vātaraktaṁ tridoṣajaṁ |
sarvavraṇāṁśca gulmāṁśca pramehapiṭakāṁstathā ||
pramehodaramaṁdāgnikāsaśvayathu pāṁḍutāḥ |
haṁti sarvāmayānnityamupayukto rasāyanaḥ ||
kaiśorikobhidhānoyaṁ gugguluḥ kāṁtikārakaḥ |
vāsādinā netragadān gulmadīn varūṇādinā ||
kvāthena khadirasyāpi vraṇaṁ kuṣṭaṁ vināśayet |
amlaṁ tīṣṇamajīrṇaṁ ca vyavāyaṁ śramamātapaṁ ||
madhyaṁ roṣaṁ tyajetsamyak guṇārthapurasevakaḥ ||

The contents —

  1. Triphala — (Amalaki — emblica officinalis + Haritaki — Terminalia chebula + Bhibhitaki — Terminalia bellirica)
  2. Amruta (Guduchi) — Tinospora cordifolia
  3. Ambu (Jala) — Water
  4. Suddha Guggulu
  5. Trayushana — Zingiber Officinale
  6. Vidanga — Embelia ribes
  7.  Danti — Baliospermum Montanum
  8. Trivrit — Operculina turpethum

The Indications —

  1. Sarva Kushta — all skin diseases
  2. Tridoshaja Vatarakta — Gouty Arthritis
  3. Sarva Vrana — All kinds of wounds
  4. Gulma
  5. Prameha Pitika — Diabetic Carbuncles
  6. Prameha — Urinary Tract Infections/ Diseases
  7. Udara – Abdominal diseases
  8. Agnimandya — Decreased Appetite
  9. Kasa – Cough
  10. Swayathu — Inflammation / swelling
  11. Pandu — Anemia
  12. Kanthikaraka — Rejuvenates the skin

The Organs it acts on —

  1. Stomach – by helping improve digestion
  2. Intestines — by removing the toxins from the body

In cases of

  1. Raised Uric Acid levels the following combination is suggested. It is to be taken atleast for 3 months.
  • Kaishore guggulu — 500 mg
  • Punarnava Powder — 3 grams
  • In cases of Eczema and Psoriasis, local application of 777 oil or charm rog nashak oil is recommended.

The Adjuvants —

  1. In netra roga — Vasadi Kashaya
  2. Gulma Roga — Varunadi Kashaya
  3. Vrana, Kushta — Khadiradi Kashaya
  4. Gout or high uric acid — Manjisthadi kwath or Punarnava decoction
  5. Abdominal disease — Warm water
  6. Chronic constipation — Warm milk

Dosage —

  • Kaishore Guggulu powder — 500mg to 1 gram twice a day
  • Kaishore Guggulu tablet — 2 to 4 tablets

The dietary restrictions while taking Kaishore Guggulu —

  1. Avoid eating heavy and spicy foods
  2. Avoid eating fried foods and junk foods.
  3. Avoid eating during indigestion.
  4. Do not take sour foods such as curd and citrus fruits.
  5. Reduce intake of salt in diet.
  6. Avoid endurance physical exercise and love making.
  7. Avoid alcohol and sun exposure.

The Side effects of Kaishore Guggulu —

  1. Acidity — it is very rare and might occur if you have a history of gastritis or GERD
  2. Frequent Urination — rare with Kaishore guggulu, but if you are taking it with punarnava for gout, it is common due to diuretic action of punarnava
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

You should avoid using Kaishore guggulu during pregnancy. Lactating mothers should take it if required and indicated under supervision of ayurvedic physician.

Children below 5 years

It is not recommended using Kaishore guggulu in children below age 5 years.

Contraindication

There are no contraindication yet known with Kaishore guggulu
