Gandhak Rasayan is a classical Ayurvedic mineral formulation prepared from purified sulfur (Shuddha Gandhaka)that undergoes repeated processing with herbal juices. Because of this detailed preparation, the formulation becomes gentle, absorbable, and therapeutically powerful. As a result, Ayurvedic physicians classify it as a Rasayana, or rejuvenative medicine.
Traditionally, doctors recommend Gandhak Rasayan for skin disorders, digestive imbalance, anemia, and hemorrhoids. Beyond that, many practitioners use it to improve skin clarity, physical strength, and long-term vitality.

- Deerghayurdayaka – Helps promote longevity
- Jaranashaka – Supports anti-aging processes
- Drishti Vardhaka – Helps improve eye health

Indications (Uses of Gandhak Rasayan)
1. Skin Diseases (Kushta)
Most importantly, Gandhak Rasayan plays a key role in managing chronic skin disorders. According to classical texts, it supports treatment in 18 types of Kushta, which involve itching, discoloration, scaling, and inflammation.
2. Abdominal Lumps (Gulma)
Similarly, physicians use it in five types of Gulma. In this context, Gulma refers to abdominal masses, bloating, or deep digestive disturbances.
3. Hemorrhoids (Arshas)
Since the formulation improves digestion and reduces toxin buildup, it may support the Ayurvedic management of piles.
4. Anemia (Pandu)
Additionally, the presence of Loha Bhasma helps support hemoglobin levels. Consequently, practitioners sometimes include it in Ayurvedic protocols for fatigue and weakness.
Dosage of Gandhak Rasayan
Classical texts mention a dose of 1 Aksha (about 12 grams). However, modern Ayurvedic practice uses much smaller, individualized doses.
👉 Therefore, only a qualified Ayurvedic physician should decide the exact dose.
Traditionally, practitioners also advise:
- Taking the medicine after proper digestion of food
- Following a milk-based diet during therapy
- Avoiding sour and salty foods
- Continuing the course for about 40 days, depending on the condition
Duration of Use
Doctors may prescribe Gandhak Rasayan for 2 to 4 months. However, the duration depends on body constitution, digestive strength, and disease severity. For this reason, patients should always follow professional supervision.
Possible Side Effects of Overdose
Although proper processing reduces toxicity, excessive intake may irritate the digestive system. For example, a high dose may cause:
- Diarrhea
- Abdominal cramps
- Bloating
- Stomach upset
For this reason, patients should never self-medicate with Gandhak Rasayan.
